Singapore Hazed Out by Harrison
Indonesia’s deleterious haze is threatening the people of Singapore with a huge incline of damaging air that is causing dis-order and forcing the elderly with weak immune systems and children with ill developed immune systems to seek shelter inside. All of this is causing pandemonium.
usually the Singapore community is an active community willing to play sports outside and have fun with one another. The haze started in September and made its quick descent from Indonesia to Singapore in the matter of a few short days, each day increasingly worse than the other until the air was completely contaminated.
A month later and Indonesia’s haze has not retired and citizens are starting to get annoyed with the haze due to it restricting physical activity. Most kids take refuge in their parents house either in their room or on the TV, one teenager says “it’s like being in lockdown for no reason”. All the singaporean government can do is just be optimistic for their people.

Swimming sets by Victor
Friday at lunch things were getting intense in the swimming office, 3 of the coaches were deciding on what sets they should make the students do. They were acting like chicks fighting over the last piece of the food.
The situation was getting indominant until coach james said” ok let's vote on what they should do”. The room had become as silent as the darkness. From then on the room had become silent for 10 minutes. A few moments later they had finally come to a solution.
“First half of the lesson we are gonna do butterfly set” exclaimed coach Victor and the second half we will do games because it's friday”. So they all came to a bizarre decision.

Why girls can’t walk alone at night by Ellen
On the 14th of October at 6:17pm, 3 teenage girls were walking together behind Tanglin mall. Beside them, a group of construction workers were sitting along the wall, completely unavoidable as the girls were heading past them. It could not have been the first time they had been in a similar situation, as their pace began to quicken and the girls moved closer together. “Do you think we can make a break for it?” one of them asked - but they knew that it would mean being more obvious and instead seemed to ignore it. The girl closest to the men ran unnervingly to the opposite side to get away, the second girl gripping a swiss army knife. The point was - there was nothing they could do to avoid it. Needless to say this is not even the worst of it, and it would not be the last time.
Why should girls have to put up with this? Especially when they know it’s not right. And it happens more often than you think. By two online studies by “Stop street harassment,” with a poll reaching 1,141 responses - over 99% reported experiencing street harassment at least once, and over 65% replied this was on a monthly basis. This is still only the least of it: Girls being followed (75%), targets of explicit comments (81%) and even being grabbed in an inappropriate way (57%).
Girls as young as 13 shouldn't have to be afraid to the point of carrying around army knives on a daily basis - shouldn’t men know better? Even out of general respect for others? Parent’s shouldn't have to worry about their daughters, where they can’t even go out with a group of friends. Instead of teaching young girls to fight for themselves, teaching them to cover up as to not be seen as a target, as to never get in anyone's way in order to be safe, which is a basic right - why not teach boys what’s generally acceptable as to respect women and not see them as objects?

Suffer Because of The Cost by Vanshaj
On the 10th of October there was a terrible shriek at about six O’clock. A woman around the age of 40 had fallen on the ground and was unable to move. She was alone with her son and her husband was at work. The woman had been in a condominium named Riveredge. She lived in a HDB that was roughly 500 meters away. She had gone to Riveredge to have a swim with her 7 year old child. She needed help and the only way she could get help was through her son.
Bystander Amit Nandrajog father of two children also heard that shriek. He had been returning from work and was heading home to surprise his children, when he heard the scream. According to him, after two minutes he saw a child and the condominium guard running towards the pool.
“What happened?” The Amit Nandrajog asked. The guard however did not answer his question. The bystander then started following the boy and the guard. They soon reached the pool where Bystander Amit Nandrajog finally understood what had happened. Though it was not clear at that time, it appeared that the woman had slipped a disk. The woman was clearly anguished and needed medical help soon.
“Should I call the ambulance?” Bystander Amit Nandrajog asked. The woman however told him that she did not want to go to the hospital.
“Just take me back home!” She cried in pain. Her house was a well five-hundred meters away not counting the stairs leading up to her house also taking in the fact that she was in no condition to walk. The guard and bystander Amit Nandrajog slowly moved the woman onto a chair. The two men had to carry her on a plastic chair all the way to her house. Every step they took was making them more and more tired. Slowly both of them finally reached the HDB. The job however was not over yet. The lift had been broken according to the woman for nearly 3 weeks. The only other way to get her to her house was up the stairs. The woman lived on the 7th floor of the HDB. The bystander and the guard had to take her all the way up to the 7th storey. Normally it would not have been a problem. This time they had to carry a full grown woman up 7 floors. The both of them carried the woman up the stairs until they finally reached. When the woman’s husband finally returned, the guard and Amit Nandrajog were waiting for him. The husband explained to the two men that this had been happening for a few months now. The woman however did not want to have surgery because it was too expensive. Has Singapore healthcare become too expensive till the point where people would rather suffer that have surgery to help them? Or is this surgery that hard to execute that it is for 6-8 thousand dollars?

Hardwork is the key to success by Vardhaman
The man was seen playing the violin at the Orchard Road Crossing, right in front of Takashimaya Shopping Centre on the 28th of October 2015. The way he played the violin was like the way a peacock danced in the rain. So Bbeautiful,So carefree, with his full heart and soul. He enjoyed playing the violin and it was a splendiferous sight to watch.
The violin is the hardest instrument to play and it requires great practice and dedication in order to play it well. Many people just give up because they find it too challenging. That man playing on the street was indeed excellent. When you walked towards him, that’s when you actually realised how dedicated, hardworking and talented he truly was.He was blind.
Without using this disability as an excuse, he made it his strength. He worked harder and harder and finally perfected the skill of playing the violin. He is a true inspirer and role model. He was not out there begging on the streets, he was doing something constructive with his life. He didn’t want people to feel sympathy for him. Instead, he wanted them to appreciate his hardwork.
Giving up and making excuses is easy, Facing challenges in life iqqs not.

Dry maintenance by Isaac
It’s not everyday that a resident encounters construction barriers preventing access to the now parched pool.
On the 19th of october, Residents of ‘sanctuary green’ encountered barriers blocking access to the pool. Authorities mentioned renewing the pool tiles. The pool is expected to close for around four months and is said to undergo more changes, This change is evident as the fossils of objects litter the dry floor. “Four months to change tiles seems like a long time” One resident pointed out another reported that many residents have been injured by loose tiles before the renovations and that many residents welcome the change but the question still hangs. ‘Why four months?’ Only time can tell.

More food for the Bangladeshi Workers by Sota
On February 12th 2015, one email was sent to the whole of Middle school in UWCSEA, The email was sent by Judith Blake a teacher stating “Last week, PGU in Grade 7. Total of 530 pieces of fruit”. 7 PGu a grade 7 class were the all time conquerors of Fresh Fruit Friday and the students from 7 PGu were given fame by the FFF organisers.
Fresh Fruit Friday (FFF) is a service in UWCSEA about collecting fruits from the students to give to the migrant Bangladeshi workers in Singapore, the workers were not properly fed and dying of hunger, they were only are given a very small amount of food for the day, they are not able to get the nutrients and energy that they need to work for the day. The fruits that the students give in are very healthy like apples and oranges. These fruits is a lifesaving deal for them and they really depend on the fruits the students give in.

Something goes wrong even in the safest of places by Vidhushi
October 11th, Ccathay Ccinema, viewers of the movie Hhotel Ttransylvania were storming out the cinema one by one demanding an immediate refund when the movie started shaking making it hard to see the screen. this started half way through the movie, most of the viewers thought it was a small bug and the staff would get rid of it soon but nothing happened. A middle aged man walked out asking the staff to see what was going on but what happened after this was not pretty. Some of the viewers overheard the conversation between the staff and the man. “It was hell” A witness said. “It wasn’t that big of a deal, like that man could have just asked the staff to fix the problem rather than screaming”.
Everything went downhill from there, The verbal fight soon got violent. One of the teenagers in the movie theater said “You could hear the manager politely asking the man to calm down, but he didn’t listen”. The man gave a staff member a bloody nose, he was fuelled with anger. Other people in the theater were starting to leave as this was not a sight that wanted to been seen by anyone, pParents closing their kids eyes, tTeenagers taking videos of the fight, and babies starting to cry.
The manager of the theater ordered security to take this man away as he was disturbing others in the theater and causing a big fight, After the man was taken away the viewers were all given refunds and an extra ticket to any movie that they wanted but many questions were still spiraling around, was this planned? was the man drunk? There are still many unanswered questions about this unfortunate event.
Cabin Catastrophe by Sahir
In April 2014 four boys named James Montana, Naren Mukherjee, Hugo Howell, and Angus Tymms, were in Tioman with their class. On their way back, they were shocked to find the roof of their cabin gone, and a wall of their cabin full of spiders. It was as if they’re territory had been invaded. The 4 boys had returned from a tiring day of sailing, jetty jumping, and other activities and were looking forward to having a good night’s rest but instead were it was the advxerse. Certain parts of cabin 15, like one of the bunk beds, were soaked in water, and spiders and cockroaches were found everywhere as if they had claimed the cabin grounds to be theirs. In a matter of minutes the whole class had arrived on the sight to see what had happened. Meanwhile Naren had ran to an instructor. The instructor was calm and took care of the situation by simply telling the boys to take their bags and move to a different boy’s cabin. Later Naren said, “I’m very lucky my bag didn’t get wet.”
This act of Naren quickly going to an adult for help, and the boys not screaming in terror, showed resilience showedws resilience and critical, quick thinking. The boys of the other cabins were fine taking another boy into their cabin, they were actually very excited. Although the territory was invaded, the warriors inside were able to ‘fight’ their way out of it and escape to safety, and show resilience along the way.

BURGERlar by Meghna
It's not everyday that you get to see students caught by a teacher stealing food. Two students were seen stealing chicken wraps at the school canteen on the 5th of March. Onlookers were shocked and delighted at the same time when Mr. Weaver’s long arms reached out and snatched the wraps out of the 8th graders hands. That day, the 2 boys were hoping for a free meal ticket for not paying for their lunch but the only result of that was suspension.
Both of them wanted to seem like icons of rebellion to everyone else. Both of them didn’t want to waste $3.50 paying for their lunch. Both of them thought that they could get away with theft. But what both of them didn’t foresee was the suspension they were both going to receive that day.
A simple Thursday lunch at the UWC canteen turned into an unpredicted mess where everyone was trying to get a better look at what was happening. Witnesses saw the situation go from bad to worse as the students denied their theft. “No I already paid for this.” the boys claimed but everyone knew the truth. The boys were pulled out of the canteen like dogs on leashes. None of the 2 boys would be seen to be stealing food again.
